Poetry Launch: Crossing a Line
Readings Carlton — Woiworung Country, 309 Lygon St, Carlton, Victoria, 3053
Join us for the launch of Hermina’s poetry by Mary Crooks of the Victorian women’s Trust fame.
Hermina Burns is a Melbourne poet. Her third volume of poetry, Crossing a line, considers the difficulty, the necessity and the responsibility of loving country. At the heart of this collection is a woman’s relationship with the landscape she inhabits, the landscape of her birth country. Crossing a line explores experiences that are sometimes shocking, confronting and difficult to process, but which demand attention.
Dodging the Relative is Hermina Burns' fourth collection of poetry. The poems in this volume render the tricky, complex and rich relationships we have with fathers, mothers, siblings, step-relations and others. Cumulatively, the collection considers a woman’s experience of ‘the relative’ in genealogical and social terms, and with respect to the physical world.
