Patrick Lyons’ debut novel, Masala and Murder, explores the Indian-Australian cultural experience through the universal lens of the hardboiled private eye.

The novel begins with the shock death of a Bollywood starlet in Australia. The police think it’s an accident. Her father thinks otherwise and hires Melbourne private investigator Samson Ryder to investigate. Using his Indian connections to open doors, Ryder prises off the glittering mask of Bollywood to unveil an industry where friendships are fickle, affairs are currency, superstition is insurance and star billing can mean murder.
