Professor Mick Dodson AM will launch Dead Heat, the gripping new thriller from Peter Cotton.

When the battered body of a young Aboriginal woman washes up on a beach at Jervis Bay, Australian Federal Police Detective Darren Glass is brought in from Canberra to investigate. Glass quickly ties the murder to the disappearance of a sailor from a high security naval base nearby and follows the trail of evidence to the red heart of Australia, where a confrontation with outlaw bikies and Aboriginal activists proves deadly. As the body count mounts and foreign links emerge, the conspiracy at the centre of the case becomes a threat to Australia’s national security and regional peace.

The novel is informed by the author’s background as a senior reporter and foreign correspondent for the ABC, and media advisor to three federal cabinet ministers. But having tackled the controversial theme of unbridled Aboriginal anger, Cotton knew he was taking a risk in asking the esteemed Aboriginal lawyer, academic and activist, Mick Dodson, to read the final draft.
