Via Crucis: Christina Pluhar, L'arpeggiata, Philippe Jaroussky

I recently sampled a wonderful track from this latest release by Christina Pluhar and her group L’Arpeggiata, on YouTube. Thankfully, Pluhar continues to push the classical musical boundaries, this time with an eminently listenable collection of Mediterranean tunes by seventeenth-century Italian composers Sances and Merula, and traditional music from Italy and Corsica.

Continuing with the high standard they set with their debut release for Virgin, Teatro D’amore, they are again joined by singers Philippe Jaroussky and Nuria Rial. But the male vocal group Barbara Fortuna from Corsica, who perform the traditional songs, steal the show here – as impossible as that would seem in the company of the outstanding Jaroussky.
