Macbeth can be one of the darkest operas found on stage. With the blood, witchcraft and more moody lighting than any film director could dream of it can sometimes be either overly dramatic or too underdone and kept in perpetual darkness. This production done by the Royal Opera House in London somehow manages to walk that tightrope between keeping it serious but dramatic and interesting. With stellar performances by Simon Keelyside and Liudmyla Monastryrska this is a fantastic performance of a classic opera.
