Magda, the mysterious new neighbour, came into Ruby’s life at just the right time. Ruby had just lost her best friend and her parents were preoccupied with her mother’s difficult pregnancy. So Ruby found herself feeling prickly and sometimes being rude and impulsive. Then Magda, with her flamboyant clothes and green eyes, gave Ruby her little glass horse, the wish pony, to keep in her room and talk to now and then. It was as though some sort of quiet magic entered their lives. A lovely story about ordinary families, schoolyard friendships, and the possibility of kindly powers alive in our streets.
