The School of Art by Teal Triggs & Daniel Frost

This is a gorgeous publication that describes the fundamentals of art practice for young students. Using five characters, known as the ‘professors of art’, the book takes the reader through 40 lessons from the basic elements of art (including lines, 3D and texture), through basic colour theory, and the design rules of art. There is also a section on putting the acquired art knowledge into practice. An activity accompanies each lesson and there are beautiful graphics of the professors illustrating each lesson that are both instructive and entertaining.

This is a book that makes art theory fun and would be great to use in a classroom setting. Independent art enthusiasts aged 9 and up will also find it informative and entertaining.
