Adapted from the Pulitzer prize-winning novel by Cormac McCarthy, The Road is a post-apocalyptic drama directed by John Hillcoat (released in Australian cinemas in late January 2010). The soundtrack to the film is a wonderful collection of 17 songs composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, some of which appear on their White Lunar album released in September 2009.
The duo also composed the soundtracks to John Hillcoat’s earlier feature The Proposition (which Cave also wrote) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Featuring simple and delicate violin and piano arrangements, with wind instruments and sound loops, this is a haunting, touching and extremely beautiful score.
