Swanlights: Antony and the Johnsons
Lead singer Antony Hegarty’s wavering, operatic voice can be divisive, but if you’re on the (ahem, ‘correct’) side of those who find him the perfect counterpart to melodic, orchestral arrangements, this review for the gorgeous Swanlights should be circled hastily in pen.
Album opener 'Everything Is New' is a delicate, gentle song that delivers instant purchasing gratification; titular track 'Swanlights' is an atmospheric and haunting piece of music; Björk trills along with 'Hegarty in Flétta'; and 'Salt Silver Oxygen' feels like a magical summer’s day with the twee removed and replaced with a tuba.
Emotive and beautiful.
