Stravinsky: Rite – Stravinsky & Revueltas: Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra Of Venezuela, Gustavo Dudamel
Opening with the famous bassoon solo, the new album from Gustavo Dudamel (at the head of the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra) is, of course, stunning. With an enthusiastic yet precise rendering of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, they also feature a work from Mexican composer, Silvestre Revueltas. Often referred to as the Stravinsky of Latin America, Revueltas’ La noche de los mayas is a piece of contrasts – loud percussion, followed by soft beautiful string – with many of the distinctive passionate rhythms imbuing the melodies. For all listeners looking for something fresh and new, with beauty still intact, this is your recording.
