Will Pittman, former football star (well, not quite, but the boss hasn’t worked that out yet) and new real-estate recruit has been buddied up with the wily, ex-secondhand car dealer Harry ‘The Fox’ Osbourne to learn the ropes of the property market in Melbourne. ‘It’s all smoke and mirrors, dear boy’, says Harry, who is not above delivering meals-on-wheels to case-out potential clients, or manufacturing health problems to play the sympathy card.

The cast of characters includes Hendo ‘the good bloke’ boss, Dally Love the Machiavellian sales star for whom success is everything and ex-nurse Catherine Martin who knows a thing or two about fake illness. Then there’s Freddy Bradman, a young and gorgeous real-estate reporter who has a grudge against Dally and is determined to bring him down with the aid of her not very stable, homeless brother Gerard. Gerard also happens to be squatting in the old convent ear-marked by Dally as the next big thing in luxury apartments.

Sold is a fast-paced, darkly funny novel that exposes the underbelly of the real-estate industry by someone who has been there. From in-house back-stabbing to bogus bidding at auctions, from stealing from the company to stealing from clients – and Will thought footy was tough!
