Schubert: Schwangengesang
With two award-winning recordings under their belt already, Mark Padmore and Paul Lewis conclude their Schubert song cycles with the magnificent Schwanengesang. While listening to this, I was struck with the independence of each musician; while they dance around each other musically, they keep separate identities that evoke more than simply a singer and pianist. This is a recording of master musicians – three of them to be precise: a consummate composer in Schubert, a crisply delightful singer in Padmore and a virtuosic, musical pianist in Lewis.
