Reich: Triple Quartet, Piano Counterpoint, Different Trains
In the year of his 75th birthday Steve Reich has remained at the forefront of classical composition. On this new recording from EMI, the composerendorsed London Steve Reich Ensemble have produced a stunning recording that pays homage to the greatness of Reich’s compositional style. If you haven’t already guessed I am a huge fan of Steve Reich. All works are beautifully performed, from the opening Triple Quartet with its nervous energy to the hypnotic beauty of Piano Counterpoint, which is a new scoring of Reich’s Six Pianos, and ending with the very moving Different Trains. For those music lovers who have never ventured into the wonderful world of Steve Reich, this is a great place to start.
Phil Richards is from Readings in Carlton.
