The productions from the Metropolitan Opera in New York are always lavish and completely over the top, just the way we like Opera. Here we have Karita Mattila in the title role of Tosca, although I had never heard of her prior to this performance it is assured and her strong mature voice easily covers the gambit of emotions that are required. The richness of the colours and scale of the production must be seen to be believed. There is no other opera quite like the ‘Live at the Met’ series.
