Patricia Petibon, Melancolia
As the title of this collection suggests, the arias on this album are infused with a sense of melancholy. What I never thought though, was that there were so many Spanish arias that are melancholy, but some have tinges of hope, some despair and then sometimes they cheat and throw in something joyful for good measure. Petibon’s strong coloratura soprano voice has a depth of character that I’ve not often heard. With exemplary guitar and orchestral work, this is an album not to miss.
