Mozzie and Midgie by Doug MacLeod and Sandy Okalyi

When a parrot lands on Mozzie and Midgie’s island, he boasts that he’s the most beautiful bird on the island. Not only that, he has the cheek to call the two black and white spoonbills boring.

Mozzie and Midgie take the parrot’s unkind words to heart, and set about trying to make themselves beautiful. They try everything from wearing soldier crabs on their heads, to wearing masks made out of fish scales, but nothing seems to work. Are they doomed to be boring forever? Or could it be that they were special all along?

Mozzie and Midgie, from Melbourne author Doug MacLeod is a wonderful example of how everyone is special in their own way. The bright and colourful illustrations from Sandy Okalyi leap off the page, and will have you laughing right along with the two beautiful spoonbills.
