When I first saw this recording listed and noticed the people involved, I didn’t really know what to expect – and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. This is wonderful music from three of the greatest musicians on the planet and a not-so-insignificant contribution from Leonard Slatkin and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The piece is classical in form, three movements over 28 minutes; spacious, wide-ranging and beautifully paced. Jazz, Indian folk forms, classical music, Appalachian folk, progressive instrumental music and something utterly new emerge for the listener.
