Jasmine: Keith Jarrett & Charlie Haden
Even by the lofty standards of Keith Jarrett, this is something special. After 35 years, it’s a heartfelt reunion with Charlie Haden, the bassist in Jarrett’s first trio and in his great ‘American Quartet’ of the 1970s. Following 25 years of admittedly superb standards albums by Jarrett’s Standards Trio, the duets comprising Jasmine are an invigorating new format. Recorded at Jarrett’s home, Haden plays with tremendous power for a man of his age, asserting his seniority, and never allowing Jarrett to stray too far from the path. This dignified sojourn through the tin-pan alley canon has the gravitas and unaffected directness of Jarrett’s now-classic solo standards disc, The Melody at Night With You.
