Italia, Nicola Benedetti

With each new disc Benedetti continues to dazzle and on her debut album on the Decca label, the talented and glamorous Nicola Benedetti tackles the world of the Italian baroque violin. The majority of works here are by Vivaldi but there are pieces by Tartini, his famous Devils Trill sonata and Veracini’s Largo from sonata no. 6 in G major. However, the two works on this recording that really grabbed my attention are the arrangements of arias by Vivaldi, transcribed for the violin from the sacred motet Nulla in mundo pax sincera and one from the opera Giustino both really demonstrate the beauty and skill of Benedetti’s playing. The support from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under the skillful baton of Christian Curnyn is excellent.
