Isbells by Isbells
From out of nowhere…well, Belgium actually…comes a late contender for, if not album of the year, then certainly debut of the year. Fans of Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and all things folksy rejoice – for Isbells are the beardy new kids on the block (or BNKOTB, if you will).
This is a record gorgeous in its simplicity, with a slow, smouldering burn that eventually totally enraptures the listener. Painting from a sparse palette, with very subtle instrumentation and golden harmonies, Isbells has already become a staple among the Readings St Kilda staff and has taken on the mantle of the Beta Band in High Fidelity. (Who is this that’s playing???) Put it on and watch it fly. And check out the price! And the artwork! Loverly.
