I Learned the Hard Way: Sharon Jones and the Dap‒Kings
Having almost single-handedly revived the retro soul movement over the last decade based on incendiary live performances, Ms Jones and her Dap-Kings return with another smouldering slab of R&B to cement their places as the undisputed queen and kings of the genre.
Recorded on a vintage eight-track tape machine at the Daptone headquarters in Brooklyn, this record simply oozes the warmth we have come to expect from them, but with added string parts and some new horn arrangements, they have injected further fire and a new level of lushness and maturity to their sound. If you have not encountered their work before, convert.
