Jean Francaix was one of the most prolific composers of the 20th Century. Although well known in certain circles, his music is often hard to find on recordings. He writes in the style of the romantics with a lot of French jazz, classical and just a hint of contemporary thrown in for good measure. I adore all of his woodwind music and this is a real gem from the Bergen Woodwind Quintet. The album features Wind Quintets No 1 (1948), No 2 (1987) the Wind Quartet of 1933 and the delightful Divertissement for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon.
