Falling into Place by Amy Zhang

When a car accident puts the most popular girl in school, Liz Emerson, in hospital, it seems as if the whole school has turned up to find out if she lives or dies. But was it an accident or a suicide attempt? Why would the girl who appeared to have it all seemingly throw it all away?

Written in non-linear flashbacks interweaved with scenes from the hospital as students wait, this is a fascinating and beautifully written debut about the impact our actions have upon one another. The author is barely more than a teenager herself, but her wisdom and writing talent truly shine in this heartfelt book that will have you desperate for a friend to read it so you can discuss it together.
