Emotion and Commotion: Jeff Beck

Jeff Beck has waltzed his way into a studio for the first time in seven years and treats us to a journey of rich, soulful moods played out on guitar. Make no mistake, this is still Jeff Beck playing here, but other than the occasional guitar attack of Hammerhead and There’s No Other Me (with Joss Stone), the signature fret-board manoeuvres slow in pace, replaced by long, warm notes holding the rage at bay.

Along with a 64-piece orchestra and with help from Stone, jazz vocalist Imelda May and opera singer Olivia Safe, Emotion and Commotion is a gentle dream. Producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn incorporate blues, rock, prog, soul, jazz and funk.

Ah, Jeff Beck! Never pigeonholed and always deserving of our attention.
