Rafal Blechacz is a Polish pianist who is already internationally known, after sweeping up all five prizes in the 15th International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in 2005. This is his most recent recording with three works of Claude Debussy and two from fellow compatriot, Karol Szymanowski. After the fireworks of the Prelude of Debussy’s ‘Pour le Piano’ we move through the Estampes and L’Isle joyeuse before we get to Szymanowski’s Prelude and Fugue in C# minor and the Sonata in C Minor. I never thought of these two as having similarities, but I was wrong. This is a musically sound recording that will leave you feeling very satisfied.
