Debussy: Complete works for piano, Gieseking
This is perhaps not strictly a new reissue, as the EMI boxed set is still in circulation, but not at the bargain price of this new Regis packaging. Sixty years on, these are still the definitive Debussy recordings. The sound is fine and the recordings lose little or nothing for being in mono. Gieseking is perhaps unmatched for the sensitivity and subtlety with which his performances tap into the nebulous and often hypnotic atmospheres of this groundbreaking music. Essential to any collection.
