For most people, the music of Cyril Scott is probably an unknown quantity – but in his day he was championed by such luminaries as Henry Wood and Thomas Beecham.

On this new recording, the performances from Mia Cooper, David Adams, Robert Plane and the Gould Piano Trio are excellent, embracing all the nuance and beauty of Scott’s compositions. This is never more evident than in the Intermezzo from the Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano. With the exception of the Clarinet Quintet, this selection receives its premiere recording. As usual, the Chandos sound is beautiful.
