Comedown Machine by The Strokes

After The Strokes’ phenomenal debut album Is This It (2001), fans of the New York outfit have had understandably high expectations for their subsequent releases, which have, more often than not, been thwarted. But in Comedown Machine the group seems to have discovered a winning formula, using their signature sound as a backdrop for a wide range of styles.

New Yorkisms have been left behind for references to pop bands of the 80s (Human League, a-ha), as well as nods to albums from turn-of-the-millennium Paris, such as Phoenix’s United and Air’s 10 000 Hz Legend.
