Campaign Ruby: Jessica Rudd

When Notting Hill fashionista and investment banker Ruby Stanhope gets sacked via email, she consoles herself by sending an angry email to the global board before polishing off two bottles of Pinot Noir. She wakes in the morning with a terrible hangover and an airline ticket to Melbourne. Armed with her summer wardrobe and last year’s bonus, Ruby intends to lie low at her aunt’s place in the Yarra Valley. But instead she finds herself with an unexpected job offer in federal politics, in the middle of the biggest election drama in recent history.

Working as a federal advisor, Ruby navigates her way around the campaign trail, through a series of PR hitches, wardrobe malfunctions and romantic slip-ups, all the while trying to steer her party towards political victory.

This is typical romantic fiction: light-hearted and fast-paced with a smart, self-deprecating heroine. Jessica Rudd has crafted a sharp, stylish novel to be gulped up in one sitting, and she will gain new fans from readers of Helen Fielding and Candace Bushnell.
