On 5 June 2011, the great Martha Argerich turned 70. To celebrate, Deutsche Grammophon, the company she has recorded with for 50 years, has released this three CD set. During her tenure with DG, she has made some of her greatest recordings. The solo and orchestral recordings here demonstrate that, as a pianist, she was not afraid to tackle any composer. Some of the standout performances are J.S. Bach’s English Suite No.2; why she didn’t record the other five suites is a mystery. Argerich is truly one of the greats of the classical world – and this set is one to be treasured.
