4: The Bamboos
The best effort yet from Melbourne’s own Bamboos. Led by producer/guitarist Lance Ferguson and anchored by the awesome breakbeats of drummer Danny Farrugia, the world-beating funk unit are back with 4 – not an imaginative title, but it worked okay for Zeppelin, Sabbath and Foreigner, I suppose.
Expect the requisite tight horn stabs, a nice coating of Hammond organ grease and unwavering commitment to groove, alongside more catchy and accessible soul-pop tunes than before. Regular cohort Kylie Auldist lends her majestic soul voice to a number of cuts, and the wonderful American MC, Lyrics Born, channels his best JB mojo on' Turn It Up'. Truly irrepressible!
