200 Million Thousand: The Black Lips

The Black Lips’ follow up to 2007’s Good Bad Not Evil is, as expected, quite the raucous affair. What is unexpected, though, is how they’ve stripped their sound back as opposed to adding to it, as most bands who start to gain a worldwide audience tend to do.

However, this more lo-fi approach to recording works wonders for the Black Lips. Their telltale brand of garage rock has been infused with a dash of late 60’s psychedelia, with obvious nods of the head to The Stones and The Byrds.

Fans who only jumped on board the Lips’ wagon with the last record may be a little surprised by the sound of this latest effort, but it won’t take many listens for them to be convinced that this is easily as good as Good Bad Not Evil, if not a little better.
