Crazy Hair

Neil Gaiman, Dave McKean

A father and child discover the joys of his crazy hair in this brilliant picture book. Bonnie tries to tame her father’s hair, but to no avail, as birds and beasts of every type jostle for space amongst the curls and tresses of this hirsute book. A warm and funny conversational text combine beautifully with Dave McKean’s edgy and dramatic illustrations to make this another perfect picture book by Gaiman and McKean.

Review

Crazy Hair is a funny and imaginative rhyming conversation between a father and his daughter about the state of the father’s wild and tangled mop of hair. The father boasts about all the things hiding on his head: birds and gorillas and dancers and hot air balloons and pirate ships. The daughter tries to comb her father’s hair, only to find herself pulled into the crazy hairdo action.

Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean are a tried-and-tested author/illustrator combo. Gaiman is a dab hand at a rollicking rhyme, and his words are complemented perfectly in hits picture book by McKean’s vibrant and surreal images. If you like the sound of Crazy Hair then you should also check out their excellent The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish and The Wolves In The Walls.
