Delta Time was released Sep 18, 2012 on the Blue Groove label. Hans Theessink and Terry Evans may be from separate sides of the Atlantic Ocean but they work together beautifully and make sense as a natural combination.
by Paul Barr
Hans Theessink is a busy European bluesman who plays over 250 gigs a year. Terry Evans is one of the best gospel blues singers around, whose long association with Ry Cooder goes back to the 1976 recording of Chicken Skin Music.
What we get here are five Theessink originals, as well as great covers of the Delmore Brothers, Bobby Charles, Jimmy Reed and J.B. Lenoir.
Beautiful acoustic guitar, slide and mandolin work, and Theessink’s gruff voice dueting with Evans’ soulful one, provide a very enjoyable collection of tunes. Cooder adds some tasty guitar on three tracks. Most of these songs were first takes and recorded with vintage equipment, creating a very real session of music.
