“Tognetti’s arrangement of the Grieg String Quartet in G minor, Op.27 opened with exciting, strident chords, unleashing the full dynamic potential of the ensemble. In this setting the principals were liberated to play with spontaneity in their solos, capturing the spice of improvisation in bowing and phrasing. The audience could not wait till the conclusion of the piece and interrupted with applause for the principals after the second movement. Leader of the cellos, Timo-Veikko Valve demonstrated a counterbalanced flexibility and control with his bowing arm that was enthralling to watch. Communication between the sections was at its best in this work and the tempo changes were expertly executed.” Canberra Times

The Australian Chamber Orchestra and Richard Tognetti have the midas touch when it comes making recorded music. Whatever they choose quickly becomes the CD of the moment and this recording will continue that trend. Opening with Tognetti’s arrangement of Grieg’s string quartet No. 1 in G minor, the ACO and Tognetti are brilliant. The ensemble playing is as one would expect from this excellent orchestra - precise, beautiful and strong. There isn’t a weak moment on the entire disc. The ACO have been described in some circles as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. After listening to this disc you would be hard pressed to disagree.
