THE ROLLING STONES ICONIC EXILE ON MAIN STREET TO BE RELEASED\nWITH NEVER-BEFORE-HEARD TRACKSAlbum Launch to Coincide With New\nDocumentary Stones In ExileUniversal Music Group is pleased to\nannounce the re-release of The Rolling Stones album Exile on Main\nStreet with an additional 10 never-before-heard tracks. Regarded as\none of the greatest albums in rock n roll history and one of the\nmost defining of the Stones catalogue, Exile will be available May\n17, 2010, in the U.K. and May 18, 2010, in the US. Upon its release\nmore than three decades ago, Exile on Main Street innovatively wove\nvarying musical genres, instruments and even artists into a\ncompelling rhythmic masterpiece. This new compilation features 10\ntracks originally recorded during the Exile era and only recently\ndiscovered while working on the reissue project. The unearthed\ntracks which include such titles as Plundered My Soul, Dancing in\nthe Light, Following the River and Pass The Wine have undergone a\nunique evolution, while staying true to the essence of the 1972\nalbum. Alternate versions of Soul Survivor and Loving Cup also are\na part of the Exile bonus materials. As a complement to the release\nof Exile on Main Street, a documentary, Stones in Exile, has just\nbeen completed for fans to view on US Network television and\nthrough BBC Worldwide internationally. The documentary features\nrare, never-before-seen archival film, photos and interviews as\nwell as new conversations with the band and the artists they\ninfluence. Produced by Oscar -winning filmmaker John Battsek and\ndirected by Stephen Kijak, who is known for award-winning work on\nCinemania, and Scott Walker: 30 Century Man, Stones in Exile offers\nan uncommon glimpse into the lives of the band as they created one\nof the greatest albums of all time. The original 18-track\ndouble-album was recorded in various stages at multiple locations,\nincluding Olympic Studios in London, Keith Richards mansion\nNellcote in France, and in Los Angeles where the literal Main\nStreet influenced the album title. These atypical circumstances\nsurrounding the recording process greatly affected the albums\noutcome which was highly reflective and influenced by the\nsociopolitical turbulence that marked the late 70s. The Stones nixed the influences of a flower-child\nera and directed their creative process with the edgier, excessive,\nmore is more approach of the “70s. Exile reveals a sprawling mix of\ngenres with undertones of blues, country, R&B and gospel mixed\nwith lyrics that fervently demand for release and liberation. The\nalbum pulled together an electric array of talent including Dr.\nJohn, the late Billy Preston and pianist Nicky Hopkins. Guitarist\nMick Taylor, who replaced Brian Jones in the band shortly before\nJones died in 1969, is a magnificent blues player who brought an\nintensity and elegance to these epic tracks. At times, these\nmusicians and others lived on the recording studio premises with\nthe band creating an extremely open and creative collaboration for\nthe album.
