Ghost On The Canvas

Campbell Glen

For more than fifty years, GLEN CAMPBELL has been among popular\nmusic’s most successful and significant artists, a multi-talented\nsuperstar who can rightfully be declared a living legend and a true\nAmerican treasure. Campbell began his career joining forces with\nthe legendary WRECKING CREW who played with artist such asFRANK\nSINATRA, THE BEACH BOYS, THE MONKEES, SIMON & GARFUNKEL, ELVIS\nPRESLEY, and most famously, PHIL SPECTOR, with whom they helped\ncreate the famed “Wall of Sound”. Campbell’s life has taken many\ndifficult turns but over the course of his astonishing career,\nCampbell can lay claim to six Top 20 albums and twentyone Top 40\nhit singles. As if his musical career weren’t enough, Campbell also\ndrew acclaim as an actor and TV personality, with credits that\ninclude 1969’s True Grit and four seasons as host of CBS’ The Glen\nCampbell Goodtime Hour. The highly rated variety series saw\nCampbell joined by JOHN WAYNE, DEAN MARTIN, RAY CHARLES, CREAM,\nJOHNNY CASH, WILLIE NELSON and MERLE HAGGARD. Sadly, Campbell was\nrecently diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer’s disease,\nmeaning that ‘GHOST ON THE CANVAS’ will be his final album. ‘GHOST\nON THE CANVAS’ sees Campbell capping his brilliant career with his\nfinal and most moving and energized works to date, a powerfully\nemotional song cycle that sees him accompanied by a truly dazzling\nline-up of songwriters and musicians. Among the tunesmiths\ncontributing original songs to the collection are such modern\nluminaries as PAUL WESTERBERG, JAKOB DYLAN, ROBERT POLLARD and\nTEDDY THOMPASON, backed by a roster of players that includes CHRIS\nISAAK, DICK DALE, BILLY CORGAN, BRAIN SETZER, RICK NIELSEN, ROGGER\nMANNING and THE DANDY WARHOLS.

Review

He has been in the music business for over 50 years. He has been both one of the hottest guitar players in the world, and an artist selling over 45 million records. Hits like ‘Witchita Lineman’, ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ and ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’ have made him instantly recognisable to different genres of music fans. Keeping all this in mind, Ghost on the Canvas is a look back on his career and life; a life that has had its fair share of ups and downs.

Having recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers, Campbell has decided this is also his ‘farewell album’. It features songs written by Paul Westerberg, Jakob Dylan, Teddy Thompson and Robert Pollard, and includes guests Chris Isaak and Dick Dale among others. This album is a fitting final bookend to a great career and a great artist.
