Co-produced by Wilco and Jim O’Rourke A Ghost is Born is\na natural progression in the Wilco catalogue. From the opening\ntrack, we get an album that is full of beautiful songs such as\n“Wishful Thinking” and “Hummingbird”, sandwiched between raw rock\nand roll (“I’m a Wheel”) and songs that are classic Wilco\n(“Theologians”). Two of the most interesting tracks on the album\nwhich deserve a special mention are “Spiders(Kidsmoke)”, a ten\nminute plus workout driven by the hypnotic bass of John Stirrat,\nand “Less Than You Think” which starts with gentle voice and piano\nand eventually drifts into approximately eleven minutes of\nelectronic soundscape. While different from Tweedy’s normal style,\nthese songs don’t detract from the song writing, which is of the\nhighest calibre. You expect nothing less from Jeff Tweedy. This may\nnot grab on first listening but it will get you in eventually. A\ngreat album.
