Hour Of Separation
Tawadros Joseph
Catalogue # JT2010
The Hour of Separation deliciously proves a new recipe: take to New York the young Egyptian-Australian lute virtuoso Joseph Tawadros, his new compositions & his younger brother/hand-drummer. Then - within a very few days - ‘cook’ with 3 much older North Americans - each, a leading figure in modern jazz.
The core quartet: Joseph on oud ( fretless, Arabic lute ), James Tawadros on req & bendir ( the latter frame drum is quite big, the former very small, with jingles in its rim; the req is enormously ‘bigger’ than it looks ), double bassist John Pattitucci & electric guitarist John Abercrombie.
The special guest: Jack DeJohnette on drumkit. He has very few peers.
The result: not quite like anything you’ve ever heard, but very beautiful.
