\n

Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra bring their\nunique energy to one of the summits of the orchestral repertoire -\nBeethoven’s mighty Symphony No.3, the “Eroica”.

\n

Beethoven’s third symphony is not only one of his most personal\nworks – powerful in both grandeur and pathos – but also the source\nof some of classical music’s most instantly recognizable\nmelodies.

\n

The album also includes two of Beethoven’s best-loved overtures,\nEgmont, inspired by Goethe’s play, and the ballet, The Creatures of\nPrometheus.

\n

No longer a ‘youth orchestra’, the Simón Bolívar Symphony\nOrchestra of Venezuela is a world-class ensemble in its own right,\ntouring the world’s great concert halls as ambassadors for their\ncountry’s unique system of musical education, ‘El Sistema’.

\n

The combination of powerful, accessible repertoire, Dudamel’s\nirrepressible charisma and the remarkable story of the Simón\nBolívar Orchestra make this recording not only desirable for\nDudamel fans and those of Beethoven’s music, but a must for anyone\nwishing to discover the power of classical music at its very\nbest.

\n

Feted like a rockstar in his homeland, Gustavo Dudamel was\nrecently awarded a Grammy for Best Orchestral Recording of 2011.\nHis epic cycle of Mahler symphonies in Los Angeles and Caracas made\nhim front page news in The New York Times and his record-setting\nMahler 8 was shown live in hundreds of cinemas around the world.\nGustavo made a stellar debut in the Wiener Philharmoniker’s\nprestigious subscription concerts in December and takes the\nBerliner Philharmoniker on tour this Spring.

Review

Gustavo Dudamel can do no wrong in the eyes of the classical music public. Coupled with the Simon Boliver Symphony Orchestra of Venezula we have a Beethoven Symphony No 3 unlike anything other I have heard. There’s quite a bit of verve that is highly enjoyable in this rendition. You can feel the heroic intentions in every uplifted note. Having worked together on recordings of Beethoven Symphony No 5 and 6 they are growing with each work they record. Finishing with the bright Egmont overture this is a great recording.
