Mozart Piano Concertos 20 21

Lisiecki Jan

Catalogue # 4790061

The Deutsche Grammophon debut of Canadian phenomenon, Jan Lisiecki, who is – at the age of 16 – already a household name in his home country. Born to Polish parents, Jan is fluent in three languages and, in lightning speed, already finished his schooling last year, simultaneous to signing an exclusive recording deal with DG. Christian Zacharias, highly respected for his Mozart interpretations both as a pianist and conductor, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, embrace Jan Lisiecki’s piano with crystalline sonorities - perfect for this music.

Mozart:
Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K466
Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K467 ‘Elvira Madigan’

Review

I have always been told that Mozart is incredibly easy for the very young and the very old. Normally we have Mozart from those at the height of their career’s, so this CD is a change as the soloist here is but 17 years old. Born in Canada Jan Lisiecki is making waves around the world, collaborating with chamber groups, soloists and orchestras. This is a recording of two of the favourite works by Mozart, the Piano Concertos No 20 & 21. There is a freshness you’d expect from a soloist so young, however there is clearly style and consideration through every note. Definitely ‘watch this space’ in regards to Lisiecki, we’ll be seeing more of him very soon.
