I have to come out and say it: I am a huge fan of Vladimir Ashkenazy and this new recording has solidified my respect. His beautifull musicinship has taken what could have been a very dry recording and made it sing! Bach’s six keyboard partitas are presented in a double-disc edition, each a testament to Bach’s genius, as well as to Ashkenazy’s musicality and strong technique. The liner notes include a small copy of the original title page of the partitas when first published by Bach in 1726. There’s also a translation, which reads that these partitas have been written ‘for the soul’s delight’ - nothing could have been truer.
