\n

In another original pairing Grammy winning violinist Hilary Hahn\nreleases the world-premiere recording of US-composer Jennifer\nHigdon’s 2010 Pulitzer Prize winning concerto, paired with the\nfamiliar, highly commercial Tchaikovsky, one of the most popular\nromantic violin concertos in the repertoire, creating a strong\nrepertoire story for promotion

\n

“While they come from different worlds, they [both violin\nconcertos] share a great many qualities: lyrical delicacy, a\nbrooding gentility, energetic abandon, and a fine maturity of\nspirit. Placed back to back, they suggest the range of musical\npossibilities open to the violin in the early twenty-first\ncentury.” Hilary Hahn

\n

On this recording she teams up with the Royal Liverpool\nPhilharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Vasily Petrenko

\n

“Hilary Hahn is a formidable musician […] able instinctively to\ncombine a highly assured virtuoso ability with a deeply thoughtful\nengagement with the score […] She astonishes audiences in\nperformance after performance and recording after recording with\nher superb technical prowess, refined good taste and intuitive\nmusical understanding” Gramophone (London)

\n

For her “magnificent” (Gramophone), “astonishing” (BBC Music\nMagazine) recording of the Schönberg and Sibelius Violin Concertos\n– another hit coupling, Hilary won a Grammy® as “Best Instrumental\nSoloist Performance (with orchestra)” in 2009 and the Choc du Monde\nde la musique in 2008.

Review

Hilary Hahn has once again produced an amazing recording. Beginning with Jennifer Higdon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Violin Concerto, Hahn dazzles the listener with yet another display of her amazing technique. After listening to the Higdon concerto, it is easy to understand why it is so acclaimed. This is a fantastic piece of music and in the very capable hands of Hahn, Vasily Petrenko and the RLPO, it is performed with tremendous grace and power. Hahn follows this work with the Tchaikovsky Violin concerto. This is yet another stellar performance from one of the great violinists in the world today – definitely an early contender for CD of the year.
