Newly single and no longer satisfied with her routine, the time seemed right for PR executive Penelope Green to leave her charmed existence in Australia and pursue her dream of trying her luck in the Eternal City. In April 2002 Penny bought a one-way ticket to Italy, where she knew no one and barely a word of the language, but was determined to create a new life. She picked up casual jobs and started learning Italian. Wrestling with complex sentences and thorny verbs, she followed her friends' advice that hooking up with an Italian stallion would boost her language skills. It definitely helped, but the fact that she happened to successively date two guys who were best mates in the same rock band didn't. Now juggling three jobs - writing for Corriere Della Sera and for a website and working in a wine bar - Penny has never earned so little money and she has never been happier. Rome has become her home. WHEN IN ROME shows what can happen if you are courageous and perhaps crazy enough, to trade in life as you know it to chase a dream on the other side of the world.
