This is a passionate, futuristic story about two teenage friends who embark on a journey they never dreamed possible. Cinnabar and her best friend Judah live in New Carradon, a domed city in which children are born under strict genetic laws and the elderly have to celebrate their own cessation (euthanasia) when they are no longer deemed necessary to the population. When Cinnabar's grandfather Reuben wants to return to the ruins of the old city to live out the rest of his natural life, rather than succumb to his imminent cessation, she plots his escape with Judah. What follows is a thrilling adventure that leads them to the unknown world outside New Carradon, and to people whose sense of humanity and love is so unlike what Cinnabar and Judah are used to in their modern world. What they uncover and what is revealed to them will change their lives forever.
