Swerve

Hugh is 16. He loves cello, he's a closet car fanatic, and he has no luck with girls. When his grandfather, Poppy, asks him to go on one last road trip to Uluru in his 1970 Holden HG Monaro GTS 350 V8, Hugh decides, for once in his life, to do the unexpected. Little does he know that Poppy has an ulterior motive ... one that would take both their lives in a direction they never expected...

This is a funny, dark, very Australian version of the American roadtrip genre. Hugh's supposedly dead grandfather (Poppy) has turned up out of nowhere and he and Hugh slowly become friends. When Poppy asks Hugh to drive with him to Uluru only six days before the most important cello audition in Hugh's musical career, Hugh doesn't take much convincing. He takes the cello with him. Along the way, and with a cast of crazy characters and incidents, he discovers quite a few secrets about his grandfather and about his family. And in the process, discovers quite a few things about himself, and begins to question the path that has been chosen for him.
