The Women At The Well features 16 tracks by 14 of Australia's leading female vocalists, covering tunes penned by Paul Kelly. Some of these songs will be familiar, but mostly these are all new recordings, many of which have not appeared on any Paul Kelly recordings.

There are some radical interpretations of Kelly's songs ranging from country, acoustic balladry, funk and full on rock and roll, to more straightforward covers by the likes of Vika and Linda, Renee Geyer, Kate Cebrano and Christine Anu. Particularly impressive are Kasey Chamber's stripped down country version of 'Everything's Turning To White', Chrissie Amphlett's funky and dark 'Before Too Long' and Magic Dirt's all out guitar assault on 'Darling It Hurts'.
