The Children's Hospitals Hush Collection: Volume 5: The Trinity College Choir

Physican and mother of five, Dr Catherine Crock at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, noticed the positive benefit music can have in calming children, their parents and staff in operating theatres, wards and treatment areas. With this in mind, she has produced the Hush Collection – music for complete calm.

The Choir of Trinity College, University of Melbourne, has built an international reputation for its fine singing of music from the Renaissance to the modern day. Students of the College strive for the highest academic standards, as well as a strong sense of service and social responsibility, including a spirit of philanthropy.

Trinity College Choir comprises traditional and modern songs, sung in the Chapel of Sacre Coeur, Glen Iris, by the choir of Trinity College at the University of Melbourne. 26 young voices lift us beyond the chotic and mundane to a place of transcendent calm, in a selection of songs specially chosen by Trinity's Director of Music, Michael Leighton Jones. Harpist Marshall McGuire and pianist Jonathan Bradley provide magical accompaniment. Sound engineering was generously provided by John Rowland.

Recording this CD for Australia’s children’s hospitals gave the choir the opportunity to put the college’s aims into practice. It also allowed us to sing pieces from the lighter side of our repertoire, as well as contributing to a worthwhile cause. While there are echoes of the music we sing in chapel, there are also folk songs, part songs, lullabies and pop songs – all aimed at providing some very calming music for the Hush Collection.

Proceeds from sales of the Hush Collection CDs support Children's Hospitals around Australia
