The Crying Light

Review

The Crying Light is the follow up to Antony's 2005 release I am A Bird Now which won the Mercury Music Prize and was Mojo's album of the year. After collaborations with Bjork, Lou Reed (for "Berlin") and Hercules & Love Affair, Antony entered the studio with some orchestral wizards like Nico Muhly and long time musical partners the Johnsons. The result The Crying Light is a shift in thematic focus. This time Antony explores his relationship with the elemental and natural world, and the intimacy of the Johnsons' sound is enveloped by subtle symphonic arrangements. Locally, the build up hasn't revolved on live performance but the release of the Another World EP (Spunk's first ever top 40 single), and a ton of press interviews.
