Salli Terri (1922-1996) was a Canadian-born singer, arranger and songwriter who had a very successful recording career with Capitol Classics in the 1950s and 60s. She made many albums that were extremely popular in their day, recording with artists such as the guitarist Laurindo Almeida, with whom she made the award-winning album 'Duets with the Spanish Guitar'. She also made many records with the Roger Wagner Chorale. It was with them that she performed at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and it is with them that she performs Deep River.
Roger Wagner (1914-1992) was born in France but emigrated to the US with his family in 1921. The Roger Wagner Chorale enjoyed phenomenal success in the '50s and '60s. He formed the Chorale in 1946 and they quickly gained world-wide recognition and fame through their many radio and television broadcasts, film soundtrack recordings and numerous Capitol Classics recordings.
Many of the tracks on this CD will be familiar to almost everyone. From 'Cross the wide Missouri (better known as 'Oh Shenandoah'), My Old Kentucky Home, Red River Valley, Home on the Range, Dixie, as well as a selection of well-known and beautiful spirituals.
